The Minister of Agriculture and Food Kiril Vatev participated in the 16th World Summit of Agriculture Ministers in Berlin, which was held within the framework of the Global Forum on Food and Agriculture GFFA 2024.  61 Ministers from all around the world and 12 high-level representatives of International Organizations took part. The Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Deyan Stratev also took part in the discussion.

This year the theme of the forum is “Food Systems for Our Future: Joining Forces for a Zero Hunger World ". Agriculture Ministers discussed a reliable and diverse food supply around the world, the necessary transformation towards sustainable and consequently resilient agriculture and food systems and underlined that this was the only way to make the right to adequate food a reality for everyone across the globe. They recognised that the climate and biodiversity crises had destabilized the world and undertook to support agricultural practices and technologies that strengthen sustainable food production. Agri-ministers discussed military conflicts, trade restrictions, inflation and market volatility and the impact of these factors on global food supply chains.

Within the framework of the visit to Berlin, Minister Vatev also met with Vladimir Bolya, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry of Moldova,. The two ministers discussed opportunities for cooperation and exchange of scientific knowledge in the field of animal husbandry. The Deputy Ministers of Agriculture and Food Tania Georgieva and Prof. Deyan Stratev also took part in the meeting.

Minister Vatev highlighted the scientific achievements of the Institutes of the Bulgarian Agricultural Academy and the Bulgarian Agrarian Universities. Minister Bolya presented his vision for the development of sheep and cattle breeding for dairy and meat production. He pointed out that agriculture must be developed as a competitive and sustainable sector. The two ministers agreed that a delegation from Moldova would visit Bulgaria as soon as possible to be acquainted with the possibilities of the Bulgarian scientific units and the achievements in the field of cattle breeding for meat and dairy production.
