State Fund "Agriculture" and the "Trakia" Regional Vine and Wine Chamber signed a contract for implementation of a fifth promotional program approved by the European Union.. This is an “Interstate program for promotion of wine to third countries (Russia and China)." This is a multinational program, offered jointly with the Romanian Association of Wine Producers and Wine Products "Dobrudzha", and it is oriented to markets of Russia and China. The duration of the program is three years.
The total budget for the first approved program for the promotion of wine is approximately EUR 3.2 million for the three annual phases of the contract implementation. The project aims at raising the image of wines with a protected designation of origin (PDO) and Protected Geographical Indication (PGI). With its help the position of products in existing markets should be strengthened and exports of wines with a protected designation of origin and protected geographical indication to increase.
Half of the projects’ budget is secured by the EU, 30% are co-financing from State Fund “Agriculture”, and beneficiaries should have 20% of funds.
Programs to promote agricultural and food products may be developed by associations of manufacturers or producers and traders. They should apply at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) and submit documents each year by 15 April (first presentation) and 30 September (second presentation). Standing Advisory Committee with MAF determines which programs to be proposed for approval by the Minister of Agriculture and Food and then sent them for approval to the European Commission.
Contracts are signed with Fund "Agriculture" within 90 days of the date on which the decision is announced by the European Commission.
