Today, a meeting of the Consultative Council on Livestock Breeding was held at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry. It was attended by the Management of the Ministry, the State Fund Agriculture, the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency and representatives of the livestock breeding sector. Discussion topics concern the specific requirements for the production, collection, transport and processing of raw cow's milk, marketing of milk and dairy products and the official control of the processes.

Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Rumen Porodzanov stated that every effort will be made to revive foreign markets for live cattle exports, focusing on the one of our southern neighbor countries, the Republic of Turkey.

The participants also discussed the terms and conditions for the implementation of the direct payments schemes for the 2017 campaign and the implementation of measure 14 "Animal welfare" of the Rural Development Program 2014-2020.

An important part of the discussion was the question raised by Minister Porodzanov about the possibility of applying exceptional aid determined by the European Commission to overcome the impact of the crisis in the EU milk market. The budget envisaged is only BGN 11 million and the deadline for the implementation of the aid is 30 September. As a matter of urgency, interested parties should therefore submit their proposals for the allocation of funds as soon as possible.
