Bulgarian Food Safety Agency has purchased only one car from June 2001 until now. In connection with the FMD crisis situations in Bulgaria and multitude of visits of veterinaries, as well as employees of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency and experts of the European Commission to impassable areas, it has been established that cars available to BFSA are not able reach critical areas. With a view to rapid and professional reaction of the BFSA and Ministry of Agriculture and Food to the FMD crisis situation,  the European Commission granted EUR 4 019 047 to cover the expenditures, related to activities, supplies and transport for prevention of diseases. In a result of that, it was necessary a car that corresponds to the requirements for car’s passability and needs of Bulgarian and foreign experts to be purchased.

BFSA has observed all requirements of Public Procurement Act, as it announced an open procedure for a car purchase in the Public Procurement Agency and State Gazette according to the legal terms and conditions.
