Prof. Dimitar Grekov, minister of agriculture and food, opened the 12th edition of the Golden Peach Festival in Gavrailovo village near Sliven.
Minister Grekov met fruit growers from the region and heard their proposals for making the sector more stable.
Later in the day, the minister of agriculture visited the fruit, vegetable and flower market in Sliven, where he conversed with fruit growers. The main accents in the conversations were the associating of farmers in organizations, the development of irrigated agriculture, the sale of fruit and vegetable produce, and the possibility for more assistance to the sector in the next programming period.
For the third year running the festival is held under the auspices of the minister of agriculture and food. The festive programme includes scientific discussions, subject competitions and concert performed by amateur regional groups. Other events accompanying the festival are a peach exposition with tasting, an exhibition of children’s paintings, competitions for fastest peach eating, and Miss Peach, Mini Miss and Mini Mister Peach competitions.
During the festival, the fruit growers will be introduced to the tendencies and the support for the development of the sector.
