“Fishing in areas with dolphin populations will be banned,” announced Minister of Agriculture and Food Desislava Taneva after a meeting with Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, attended also by Minister of Environment and Water Ivelina Vasileva and ecologists from the he Protect Koral environmental organization. The meeting was initiated by Prime Minister Boyko Borisov in connection with the death of dolphins in the Black Sea. Minister Taneva stressed that this is the first urgent measure that the government will take to protect the dolphin populations. "The areas will be specified according to the information of the Ministry of Environment and Water. The fishing ban will be presented at the border control authorities and the Interior Ministry, in order to support control implementation, "she added.

 

 

 

 

Desislava Taneva announced that there is a working group that prepares amendments to the Fisheries and Aquaculture Act and these will be discussed with the NGOs.” Among the most important restrictions are those on various types of fishing that depleting biodiversity ", said Minister of Agriculture and Food. According to her, it was also envisaged for the “possibility, even the obligation” for nets to be equipped with acoustic devices so that small dolphins would not be entangled in the nets.
