Minister of Agriculture and Food Dr. Miroslav Naydenov will propose to the National Assembly to allow the state forest enterprises to produce up to 30% of wood material in the relevant area after an approval of the principal. The proposal will be noted down in the amendments to the Forestry Law which will be considered on second reading in parliament. This became clear after a meeting of Minister Naydenov with representatives of wood harvesting and wood processing sector and stock exchanges.

The purpose of this change is to create tools by which in case of emergency situation or circumstances adequate response for mobilization of resources necessary to prevent the wood deficit to be made possible, said Minister Naydenov. "Currently there is a precedent, hunting farms can extract timber while forest enterprises - not," he said. "When there is not enough firewood, I have no right by law to order their supply," he added.

Minister Naydenov stated categorically that he would not abandon the proposed sale of timber in stock exchanges. "This is a political decision and it is made for full transparency and reducing corruption in the sector," he said. The market will be liberalized as 50% of production will go on commodity exchanges while the other 50% will be sold through auctions organized by the forest enterprises.

Executive Director of the Sofia Stock Exchange Vasil Simov urged companies when there are problems with brokers to inform him personally or to send signals to the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets. Mr. Simov invited representatives of the logging companies to visit the Sofia Stock Exchange and to get acquainted with the working mechanisms and activities of brokers.
