The Minister of Agriculture and Food, Dr. Georgi Tahov, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Iraq to the Republic of Bulgaria, H.E. Mrs Lina Omar, discussed opportunities for promoting bilateral trade and investment with an emphasis on the exchange of agricultural and food products.

Minister Tahov noted the good level of cooperation between the two countries, the successfully completed procedures for the export of Bulgarian agricultural products to Iraq and emphasized that there is a potential for the development of bilateral cooperation in the field of agricultural science and technology, irrigation and hydromelioration.

The Ambassador of Iraq stated that Bulgaria is a desirable trade partner and noted the importance of the import of Bulgarian agricultural products and food for the Iraqi market. She pointed out the opportunity for exchange of experience in the field of organic and sustainable agriculture, the transfer of animal genetic material and the trade in planting material for fruit varieties.

Minister Tahov emphasized the growing importance of the agricultural sector in view of climate change and the need to ensure food security while expressing his readiness to support bilateral initiatives in agriculture.
