Germany is among Bulgaria's main partners in in agricultural trade, accounting for nearly 8% of Bulgaria's total agricultural trade in recent years. This was what stated the Minister of Agriculture and Food, Dr. Georgi Tahov at a meeting with Irene Maria Plank, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Bulgaria.

Minister Tahov reported that the exchange of agricultural goods between the two countries reached EUR 1.0529 in 2023. "This cooperation is important for us, and I am convinced that it will continue to develop and deepen in the future," he added.

Another topic of discussion included the concept of draft legislation on the supply chain of agricultural products and food, which aims to balance the agri-food chain and lead to an equal distribution of added value among all operators.

The EC outlined “Vision for Agriculture and Food” published on 19 February 2025 which will be a key tool for shaping the future agricultural policy after 2027was also discussed.

“In the current dynamic environment, marked by economic, climate and geopolitical challenges, our country is categorical that the CAP should be a strong, independent, well-funded policy with a separate special budget, based on two pillars. We insist on ensuring sustainable financing of agricultural policies, which will provide predictability and security for Bulgarian farmers. We will continue to actively work to achieve a fair distribution of direct payments and their equalization among farmers throughout the Union”, said Minister Tahov.
