Seminar to present the principle directions of  the secondary legislation  in conformity with the new forestry draft law was opened by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Prof.Dr. Georgi Kostov today in Sofia.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food hosted the second seminar to present the main activities under the project to support the institutional reform in the forestry sector IDF № TF 096 228, financed by the Institutional Development Fund of the World Bank. The event was held under the motto "Let’s together sow the seeds of good ideas for the upcoming reform of the forestry sector during the new year”. Leading international and national experts,  as well as consultants under the project presented the principle directions of secondary legislation of the new draft law on forests. Representatives from all interested parties took part in the work meeting among who were the  representatives of the Union of Forest Commercial Companies in Bulgaria,  Branch Chamber of Wood-Working and Furniture Industry, National Association of Private Forest Owners “Gorovladelets”, Wood Processors Association, Branch Association of the Practicing Foresters and Forest Entrepreneurs in Bulgaria – BULPROFOR, Chamber of Independent Valuers, deputies from Agriculture and Forestry Committee, the Ministry of Economy and Energy, Bulgarian Foundation “Biodiversity", WWF, “Green Balkans” Non-profit Association, trade union organizations from the sector, environmental non-governmental organizations, representatives of the State Forestry Administration and the World Bank .

The presented proposals and recommendations for secondary legislations, as well as models corresponding to the project for a new forestry law are as a result of a detailed analysis of the existing national, European and international legislation and forestry practices, as well as numerous meetings with interested parties.

At the end of the last year, the first introductory seminar was held, which set the beginning of a more open dialogue between the teams of consultants and other interested parties. Main aspects of the reform in the forestry sector, as well as the key aspects of the project, including activities under “Support the formation of state structures”, “International analysis of proposals for legal amendments” and “Institutional council”, were presented during the seminar. Discussion to clarify to major issues related to the forthcoming reform was also held
