Working Interdepartmental Group on Food Bank had a second work meeting  in the Ministry. The group includes organizations united in efforts to plan an effective model for provides assistance to disadvantaged people and at the same time, reduces the waste and disposal of food that has no commercial appearance as well as a network of food banks. Some of the goals of the group are aimed at making proposals and providing conditions for effective functioning of the food assistance through food banks.

The Working Group is chaired by Kiril Kirkov, Director of Livestock Breeding Department It involved experts from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, representatives of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency  and food industry as well as experts in the field of food banks establishment.

Food Bank is a mechanism for collecting, storing and distributing food to social needs. Its aim is to systematically provide food for the socially disadvantaged groups. It works on the basis of long-term partnership and sharing of resources between the public, business and civil sectors. Food banks receive donated food and provide it to the needy through a network of other organizations that work with different groups
            
The initiative for its creation is the FORA Community Development Foundation. in support of the Global Foodbanking Network, Cargill Foundation, Kraft Foods, in cooperation with the European Federation of Food Banks.
