With the new draft ordinance for timber logging we would not step back and would fight against the commission, which were given for a cubic meter of wood some time ago," said Minister of Agriculture and Food Dr. Miroslav Naydenov during a meeting with representatives of the timber logging and wood processing companies in the town of Razlog. "If someone asks for money I would like to inform me," urged the Minister.
The draft ordinance for timber in forest areas provided 50% of the timber to be sold in commodity exchanges, to anyone who has access. Another 25% will be offered to the local population while the rest 25% will be given to companies with long-term contracts which guarantee them greater stability and security, said Minister Naydenov.
We are drafting an ordinance that would not be convenient for us, but the one that would give greater certainty to business, as well as to modernize and develop the sector," said Minister Naydenov. Until now the timber yield is only 60% of the necessary sanitary forestry felling annually. The reason for this is poorly developed infrastructure in the forests, the lack of forest roads and investments. With the new Forestry Law an investments fund has been established in order to help roads to be built in forest areas.
Before the meeting, Minister Naydenov made a tour around wood processing enterprise "Technowood" EAD, which have invested over BGN 70 million and provided jobs for 450 people.
