Minister of Agriculture and Food Dr. Miroslav Naydenov performed the traditional cutting of vines in the massif of vineyards in the village of Karpatovo, Petrich region, on the traditional celebration of St.Trifon’s Day.
Vine massif, which is spread on 120 decares, is a property of the “Golden Rozhen” winery. It is built under the Measure "Restructuring and conversion of vineyards” of the National Program for Support of the vine and wine sector. More than 78% of the funds under the measure for 2010 were absorbed and paid out. The total budget of the measure amounts to EUR 17.114 million.
In the field of vine and wine sector, the grape and wine producers can apply under the National Programme for support of the wine sector 2008/2009 - 2013/2014, as well as the Rural Development Programme. Under the National Programme for support of the vine and wine sector 2008/2009 - 2013/2014, three measures to apply for assistance have been included as follows: "Restructuring and conversion of vineyards," Promotion in third countries "and" Harvest insurance "as the companies show greatest interest in the Measure "Restructuring and conversion of vineyards”.
As an additional accompanying measure, the Wine Vines Eradication Scheme has been implemented, aiming at creation of adapted to market conditions for the wine sector. The scheme is oriented at manufacturers who believe that certain areas do not offer favorable conditions for a viable industry to reduce costs and ultimately to abandon the production of wine in these plots.
Bulgaria exported some 57 683 000 million liters of wine in 2010. Bottled wine accounts for about 80% of the total export. Despite the rise in worldwide export of wine, the market is still experiencing woes as supply exceeds demand. The main problem on the global market is overproduction and it is essential to strike a balance between demand and supply in order to achieve long-term profitability, which export price of wine depends on.
