Minister of Agriculture and Food announced the results from the joint inspection of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency and the Commission on Consumer Protection. "8 of 14 samples of chicken meat have shown levels of water content ranged from 27 to 51%," said the Minister. He added that there are cases in which the chicken meat has not been injected with water, but with salt solutions, which is not good for the health of consumers.
Offender companies will be fined with BGN 10 000. For repeated violation the the right to business will be the revoked, said Minister Naydenov. According to European Regulation different limits for water content are allowed but for the purpose of processing, he said. This content must be indicated on the labels of chicken products.
Changes in the regulations that will require manufacturers to declare the water content on the labels will be made, added Minister Naydenov.
Commission on Consumer Protection (CCP) is expected to announce the names of the companies - offenders. The Minister added further that the checks will continue.
