“The Government's policy is in harmony with the priorities of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for ensuring nutrition and increasing the living standards of the population," said Minister of Agriculture and Food Dimiter Grekov at a meeting with FAO Director-General Jose Graziano da Silva in Rome.
Minister Grekov stressed that the policy is focused on raising the income of people employed in agriculture, conservation of natural resources, sustainable rural development, as well as successful absorption of EU funds and more efficient use of agricultural science.
The Minister noted that the Ministry of Agriculture and Food participates actively in initiatives of FAO, including meetings on food security, activities of specialized committees on forestry, fisheries and aquaculture, livestock and crop gene pools.
Dr da Silva expresses his satisfaction with the cooperation between Bulgaria and the FAO and its active participation in the activities of the Organization. He congratulated Minister Grekov for the excellent organization of the conducted jointly with FAO Seminar on Land Relations in Sofia in October 2013
They discussed the possibility of opening a FAO office in Bulgaria.
