Minister of Agriculture and Food Dr. Miroslav Naydenov and Deputy Chairman of Agriculture and Forests Committee in National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria Emil Dimitrov started today the hunting season 2011 at the village of Zavoi, Region of Yambol.
Every year the season begins with the hunting of quail, turtles and other migratory game. Minister Naydenov urged the hunters to be careful and follow the safety rules, to put mandatory reflective vests or caps, thereby reducing the accidents during the hunting.
The Minister recalled that in 2010 deaths during hunting were 3 and accidents resulting in injuries - 12. During season 2009 the injured hunters were 10 and the fatal accidents – 8.
The reason for the large number of accidents is the insufficient training, primarly of younger hunters. The lack of early military training or mandatory military barracks that can build practice and teach them discipline is another factor influencing the negative statistics, he said. Tightening the control by the Executive Forest Agency is a fact and for the last year there are 591 composed acts under the Law on hunting and game preservation, the detained hunting weapons are 79, among with 121 cartridges.
Minister Naydenov wished Good Luck and successful and safe season for all lovers of hunting.
