Today State Fund “Agriculture” will pay totally BGN 965 000 to 210 candidates under the Measure 214 “Agri - environment payments” of Rural Development Program (2007-2013). Approved projects are under four sub- measures: Organic farming, maintenance of lands with high natural value, maintenance of landscape and traditionally animal breeding. Thus the total amount of paid subsidies under the measure in 2011 exceeded BGN 10 millions.
The aim of Measure 214 is to encourage the introduction of environmentally spared methods of agricultural production. Payments are given annually for at least five years to farmers entered into contract to agro ecological agriculture. They are compensation for the work they do, spend means and sometimes they suffer losses in the name of natural conservation.
