A total of 600 kg of fish were seized in the coastal city of Bourgas in a joint operation of the Bulgarian National Agency of Fisheries and Aquaculture (NAFA), local police and the Fisheries and Control sector.

The fish, including 30 kg of whitefish and 570 kg of bream, was discovered during a routine check of a Ford pickup truck at the exit of Meden Rudnik neighbourhood. The driver, who failed to present transportation papers for the load, admitted he had purchased the fish from poachers at Mandra Lake.

A further 500 kg of silver bream was recovered from poacher nets in Mandra Lake in another operation that took place yesterday.
