Minister of Agriculture and Food Dr. Miroslav Naydenov met with representatives of the protesting farmers in Arbanassi.
I'm here because I want the dialogue between us to continue and extend, said Minister Naydenov. I want everyone to get acquainted with what I said at the meeting in Ministry of Agriculture and Food, namely that despite despite reduced resources for national payments the overall budget to support the agriculture sector for the next year, the Minister said.
Predefined parameters in the financial framework are maintained completely, with the exception of funds per area, where instead of BGN 240 million will be allocated BGN 100 million, said Minister Naydenov. Farmers affected by this change will be compensated as follows: tobacco growers will receive BGN 73 million, animal breeding farmers – BGN 71 million, vegetable growers will receive BGN 25 million and potato producers – BGN 5 million..
European subsidies per area are increased from BGN 18.50 per dca to BGN 22.50 per dca. This means an increase of money per dca for pasture, from which the animal breeding farmers will benefit, the minister underlined. There will be a reduction of BGN 3 .00 per dca in additional payments from the national budget for grain producers.
"Furthermore, we can definitely guarantee the reduced excise duty on fuel for 2012. BGN 70 million is set apart from the general budget" added Minister Naydenov.
He urged the protesters to be reasonable. "Closing borders is not a solution, let's not repeat the Greek model of protest because it would also become an international problem and we will have to pay after that, as the Greeks do now," added the Minister.
He apologized that in the last few days the ambition of farmers was inadvertently undermined by statements about their well-being. "You asked for an apology, and got it today by Minister Dyankov, and me. The tension is great, if we could not resist this strict financial discipline that Europe intends to impose, the consequences will be severe. Your Association has never allowed to be used, I hope not to let that to happen now, "said Minister Naydenov.
