European Committee launches a promotional campaign to encourage the fruit and vegetables, after the crisis with Escherichia coli bacteria. “What’s on the menu this summer? Fruit, vegetables and more vegetables!” reads the advertising poster. European Commission launches in addition a promotion campaign in all EU Member States to win back consumer trust in fruit and vegetables. The campaign consists of announcements in print as well as an audiovisual news package distributed free of charge to TV stations across the EU and neighboring countries.

The total budget, which was allocated by EU for supporting of vegetable farmers for all Member States, amounts to EUR 210 million. In Bulgaria, due to the crisis 96 applications for assistance were filed. Vegetables notified to the EC were amounted to 9 002 tons, with a total value of EUR 2 556 270. Assistance is granted to producers of tomatoes, salads, cucumbers, peppers and zucchini.
