Children will receive at least four different types of fruits and vegetables monthly under the European School Fruit Scheme. Among them are: apples, pears, peaches, plums, cherries, grapes, bananas, tangerines, oranges, grapefruits, kiwi, tomatoes, cucumbers and carrots. Applying for the Scheme will be up to 20.09.2011 in all Regional Directorates of State Fund “Agriculture”. For the school year 2011-2012 under “School Fruit” are provided funds amounting to BGN 3 771 043 by the European Agricultural Guarantee Fund and the state budget – as a national co-financing and assistance.
The Scheme completely corresponds to the European Union Policy for improving health and reducing of the long-term risk for development of socially significant diseases. It is expected that 133 000 children will benefit from the School Fruit Scheme. The amount of financial assistance per child for the supply of fruits and vegetables under the Scheme for the school year 2011-2012 is BGN 27, 29 and the value of the portion is – BGN 0, 68.
“School Fruit” is applied throughout the country within the school year. The Scheme covers all children from third and preparatory groups of kindergartens and students from preparatory to the fourth grades inclusive in schools.
The deadline within which the Paying Agency must approve the participants in the Scheme expires on October 31, and from November 1 starts the delivery of products in schools. The list with eligible recipients of assistance will be published at website of State Fund “Agriculture” until October 31.
