Bulgarian Association of Traders of Agromachinery (BATA AGRO) chairman Hristofor Bunardzhiev scooped up the 2012 Agro Business Person prize of Bulgarian Farmer newspaper.

The prize was handed by deputy minister of agriculture and food Svetlana Boyanova, and honours his contribution in advancing the technological overhaul of the local agriculture industry and organizing the BATA AGRO international trade fair.

Bunardzhiev wins the prestigious title for a second year after picking up the 2008 prize.

‘Money will be made available for agricultural machinery for this programme period and for the next as well,’ said Boyanova. ‘We should join forces with the industry associations such as BATA to decide how to spend the funding and pinpoint our real priorities so that we don’t repeat past mistakes,’ she added.

Up till now, over 55% of the budget of Measure 121 of the Rural Development Programme, or EUR 279 million, has been contracted for machinery. A further EUR 215 million has already been disbursed.
