Minister of Agriculture and Food Dr. Miroslav Naydenov participated in a meeting of the National Poultry Farmers Union, which was held for the first time after a break of several years. According to poultry farmers, the sector problems imposed the reviving of meeting practice at national level.
Among the problems raised by the union members were the high prices of grain fodder, the pressure of grey economy, necessity of observing deadlines for implementation of the EU animal welfare requirements and last but not least the increased competition within the wide opened European market.
Regarding the question related to the national extra payments for livestock breeding sector, high prices of grain fodder and the demands for differentiated tax rates under Value Added Tax for food products, Minister Naydenov committed himself to initiate a meeting of representatives of the Union of Poultry Farmers in Bulgaria with the Finance Minister, where the financial problems to be considered. Minister Naydenov pointed out that given the expected good year for grain, production hopes the grain fodder prices to be stabilized.
