Minister of Agriculture and Food Dr. Miroslav Naydenov will initiate large-scale checks on the quality parameters of bread throughout the whole chain- bakeries, flourmills, grain bases next week. That is what Minister of Agriculture and Foods Miroslav Naydenov announced after a meeting with the chairmen of the three organizations and the bakeries in Bulgaria. Prime Minister Boyko Borisov gave instructions joint checks to be carried out by a number of authorities. After talks with finance minister Simeon Dyankov and interior minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov it has been decided these checks to be carried out by the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency, National Revenue Agency (NRA) and Economy Police " Data show that more that a half of the sector is gray. Therefore we will check the situation. We should be uncompromised and will stop at nothing where there is illegal bakery it will be closed off”," said Minister Naydenov and added that according to the data, submitted by industry organizations, registered ovens are about 4500.
He explained that an expert council will gather on Monday to start working on three state standards for three types of bread – white, brown, and "Dobrudzha".
In his words, the new breads that will be produced under the standards will be more expensive, but will consist of water, flour and salt only. Alongside,there will also be standards for the raw materials – grain and flower, the minister said. Minister Naydenov announced that next week he will invite all the bosses of big retail chains to discuss the complaints of farmers in relation to the fact that they impose their own standards and dictate prices below the prime cost. He particularized that he would not intervene in trade relations, but will hold firmly to the quality and safety of products.
