Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Svetlana Boyanova opens today the first store for direct sales of farm produce, made under the Ordinance for direct sales. The store is first of this type in Sofia. It will sell bee products of Ambrosia Beekeeping Company. The Ordinance gives chance to farmers to sell their produce directly to the end consumers. In the newly opened facility, the consumers could find all types of bee products with guaranteed quality and safety.
At the opening ceremony the owner of the store and honey bee producer Stefan Stafanov expressed his dissatisfaction with the restriction pursuant to the law, according to which beekeepers to sell directly only 40% of their produce, not more than 2 tons per year. Deputy Minister Boyanova particularized that this is a requirement of the EC and further amendments of these terms are subject to approval by the Community.
Deputy Minister announced that 70% of the funds under the National Beekeeping Program 2011-2013 have already been absorbed. BFSA Deputy Director Ventseslava Tasseva said that only 23 farm producers so far have opted for direct sales under the terms of the ordinance. Of them 18 produce bee honey, 4 offer eggs, while a farmer produces raw milk, Tasseva said further.
