Minister of Agriculture and Food Dr. Miroslav Naydenov appealed to people not to define Bulgarian fishermen as killers of dolphins, because there is no evidence of intentional death of dolphins that were found dead in the Black Sea. Minister Naydenov discussed the situation with ejected dolphins by the Black sea this summer during meeting with representatives of responsible institutions, scientific circles and non-governmental environmental organizations. The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Environment and Water Evdokiya Maneva, an Executive Director of Executive Agency for Fishery and Aquaculture Plamen Zahariev, epresentatives from Institute of Oncology – Varna and Institute of Fishing Resources – Varna, as well as representatives of environmental protection organizations from “Fishery” sector.
Checks of EAFA show that there is no deliberate draught of dolphins, said Minister Naydenov. According to him most dolphins were died from natural death. At the moment there is no exact data for population size of dolphins in the Black Sea.
