Minister of Agriculture and Food Dr. Miroslav Naydenov announced that  the companies put up to 50% of water into meat products  and delude consumers about the weight, announced the Minister before reporters today. The process is called tumbling. It is carried out by injecting water and salt solutions in the products, which are not good for the health, adding that there are some cases in which a chicken weighting 1.5 kilos contains half a kilo of water and salts.

“We will launch mass check-ups with draconic fines and even licenses will be taken away in case of serious violations,” Minister Naydenov remarked.

Furthermore, the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency  is drafting a blacklist of unfair food producers and processors. It  will include all names of  companies that do not comply with hygiene standards and safety requirements for consumer protection.
