Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Dr. Tzvetan Dimitrov opened the first working meeting on the project "Risk management in agriculture”. The meeting is organized by the Institute of Agricultural Economics, headed by Prof. Dr. Dimitar Nikolov.

"The lack of risk management has a direct impact on the incomes of farmers, market stability in the sector and potential food safety, said at the meeting opening Deputy Minister Dimitrov.  „Creating a set of adequate measures is necessary condition to offset the effects of risks that affect farmers' income as production risk, related to meteorological and sanitary environment, and price risk," added the Deputy Minister.

"I hope the project to come out with better solutions for the benefit of Bulgarian agriculture. The theme is highly relevant at this time when in cooperation with the European Commission, we are looking for new legal mechanisms and ways of coping with problems and compensating the farmers affected by FMD, "he added.

The project aims to detect and assess the impact of economic crisis on farm management and to develop a system of risk management in agriculture. The project envisages exploring the basic tools of risk management to be available to farmers in the country.
