Minister of Agriculture and Food Dr. Miroslav Naydenov held conversations with European Commissar for maritime affairs and fisheries Maria Damanaki and he convinced her that Bulgaria and Romania do everything that is possible to preserve the population of turbot and sprat in Black Sea. After conversation, European Commissar Damanaki has announced that she withdrew the proposal of European Commission for reducing the quota for catch of turbot and sprat in Bulgaria and Romania. Thus the two countries retained the certain levels – 85 tones for turbot and 11 475 tones for sprat.
“It’s unprecedented withdrawal of EC’s decision for reducing of quotas and it is success for Bulgarian fishermen”, said minister Naydenov. He has an engagement in front of European Commissar, Bulgaria to introduce more strict measures for illegal catch of turbot and sprat.
