Bulgaria will insist before the European Commission to establish a joint Coast Guard with Romania in the Black Sea in order to protect the interests of fishermen of both countries. This became clear at a summit on the problems of the Black Sea, held in Brussels and organized by the European Commissioner for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Maria Damanaki, which involved the Minister of Agriculture and Food Dr. Miroslav Naydenov.
It is necessary to stop the practice in the EU, the Black Sea to be seen in this context of the Mediterranean, said Minister Naydenov. He said that a regional policy is necessary for the Black Sea. It is no fair Bulgaria and Romania to be limited with quotas to catch turbot given that they gain only 10 percent of the total catch whiles other Black Sea countries to do whatever they want, the Minister was adamant. He said those quotas do not work and it is expected the EC to respond.
Commissioner Damanaki proposed an Advisory Council for the Black Sea to be formed within the EU. It is possible to reach consensus and soon Directorate General for the Black Sea to be created.
