Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Associated Professor Dr. George Kostov and civil servants from Ministry of Agriculture and Food and Executive Forest Agency are in two weeks work visit and specialization in the USA, which continues to July 30.

In the early days of the visit Deputy Minister Kostov met and talked with Joel Halldrop –Deputy Director of Central Management o Forest Service in Washington.

A meeting in World Bank was held, where were discussed the reforms in forestry sector in Bulgaria and were identified ideas for future cooperation in prevention of fires and trading with greenhouse emissions.

On July 25 was investigated the work of three (of 50) large wood processing – LP company’s plant for production of lining walls for houses on the base of OSB panels’ production; plant producing low quality paper used for packaging, and small family company producing chipped material and wood houses of solid softwood.  It was found that all people worked at full market competition, without any special advantages for large users.

On the same day TV Channel 12, transmitting frequencies of local NBC, aired an interview with Deputy Minister Kostov and a report from work visit to study the experience in carrying out activities in national forests in Northern Wisconsin, USA.

The specialization is conducting entirely by the help of America for Bulgaria Foundation and US Forest Service.
