Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Prof. Dr. Georgi Kostov met with tobacco producers from the region of Kardzhali. The meeting took place at the initiative of MP of GERB Tzveta Karayancheva and the Governor of Kardzhali Ivanka Taushanova.
The aim of the meeting is to consider the problems of people occupied in the sector and the changes envisaged in the Law on tobacco and tobacco products to be presented.
Deputy Minister Kostov expressed position of the MAF and added that it is necessary to work towards the promotion of income diversification activities for the tabacco growers. Ensuring a smooth transition to new market conditions of tobacco production should be done gradually and with the awareness of all employees in this sector.
Deputy Minister urged for partnership between producers, stressing that the model for collective buying agreements for this type of raw material should be universally adopted. This will be one of the first steps to ensure stable prices and solid protection for the interests of producers.
