Bulgaria, Romania, Slovenia and the countries from the Vishegrad Group advocated mixed farms aimed to develop conventional and organic farming. That became clear at the meeting of agriculture ministers of Bulgaria, Romania, Slovenia and the countries from the Vishegrad Group in Slovakiaq attended by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture Brakalova

" If the proposal for EU regulation on organic farming is adopted  it will be hard for Bulgaria to safeguard the trends for development in the sector once the opportunity for mixed farms is eliminated, as well as for the use of non-biological seedlings and animals for organic produce. This might make farmers reluctant to switch from conventional to organic farming”, the Bulgarian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Marina Brakalova said. The participants in the meeting signed a Joint Resolution on the proposal for regulation of organic production and organic product labeling which includes an appeal to the European Commission to provide guarantees that organic products are GMO-free.

Issues related to the consequences of Russian food imports ban from the European Union were also discussed at the forum in Slovakia.
