With nearly BGN 200 million will be increased the overall budget to support the agriculture sector for the next year, despite reduced resources for national payments. That said Minister of Agriculture and Food Dr. Miroslav Naydenov during a meeting with representatives of the protesting farmers, among who were newly elected Chairman of the National Association of Grain Producers Angel Vukadinov, Deputy Chairman Radoslav Hristov and others.

Minister Naydenov explained that funds for agriculture this year amounted to BGN 1,066,488,980 while for 2012 they amounted to BGN 1,258,130,243, which is with BGN 200 million more in times of economic crisis He stressed that the funds for direct payments for 2007 amounted to BGN 433,784,367, while for 2010 – BGN 861 million and for 2011 amounted to BGN 882,388,453. This shows again that there is an increase in the size of direct payments. For the first time farmers from fruit and vegetables sector will receive support amounted to BGN 25 million. European subsidies per area are increased from BGN 18.50 per dca to BGN 22.50 per dca. This means an increase of money per dca for pasture, from which the animal breeding farmers will benefit, the minister underlined. There will be a reduction of BGN 3 .00 per dca in additional payments from the national budget for grain producers.

"The strongest sector in agriculture – grain production can withstand this reduction at the expense of increasing the money for animal breeding farmers, vegetable growers, fruit growers, potato producers, and pig breeders. Some, such as vegetable, fruit growers, pig breeders and poultry breeders will receive subsidies for the first time, "said Minister Naydenov.

Predefined parameters in the financial framework are maintained completely, with the exception of funds per area, where instead of BGN 240 million will be allocated BGN 100 million, said Minister Naydenov. Farmers affected by this change will be compensated as follows: tobacco growers will receive BGN 73 million, animal breeding farmers – BGN 71 million, vegetable growers will receive BGN 25 million and potato producers – BGN 5 million.

I am Minister of agriculture, not a minister of grain producers and as such I must protect and be fair to all sectors, said Minister Naydenov. Two years and a half I have not had a day to refuse a meeting with any of the associations, which shows that there is dialogue and I hope it to be fair, he added.

If I did wrong or offended anyone, I apologize. This is the worst financial crisis since World War II and we have to deal with it. Some will be happy, others not so, but the final amount is important, and it is about BGN 200 million more, concluded Minister Naydenov.
