DEAR PLANT-PROTECTORS,

I am glad to congratulate you on your professional day, with which today we mark the festive occasion on 115 years, passed unnoticeably, since the official beginning of plant protection in Bulgaria.

Plant protection is one of the most important and responsible sectors in agriculture. It is called upon to participate in solving the vital problem of providing livelihood to the ever-growing population in the world. This is possible only by  minimizing the maximum losses caused by pests that are able to greatly reduce or lead to a complete crop failure. In this respect, it is very important for Bulgarian farmers to treat their products with the allowed  preparations to reduce the risks of loss or poor agricultural production. From this year within the structure of  the Bulgarian Agency for Food Safety, before the official plant protection in Bulgaria new opportunities will be opened up, but at the same time new responsibilities will be placed before the plant protection in Bulgaria . Improving the control over plant production and plant products,  in all plant protection aspects, will lead to guaranteed quality and safety of crop production in line with EU requirements and international standards and to provide a stable presence of our plants and plant products on European markets.

But fight against pests should not be an end in itself, but a reasonable and friendly  to environment, humans and animals.

Bulgaria has a very old tradition in the field of plant protection - as  with professionals, as well as with programs that we can boast that are at a really advanced level. Therefore I would like to express my gratitude to everyone involved in the system of plant protection for their  efforts made to follow the latest trends in their daily professional responsibilities.

On this day, first of all I wish you health and success in your work to effectively protect crops from pests, success in the production of quality and safe foodstuffs, as wells as the pereservation of natural resources.

Happy Holidays!
