Minister of Agriculture and Food Dr. Miroslav Naydenov was awarded with a presentation copy of plastic art work “Driada”, made as a symbol of a project “Preservation and restoration of oak habitats on the Black Sea”. The prize was awarded to him by the manager of the project Dr. Ivo Kostov. Minister Naydenov expressed his sympathy and called for joint efforts in the protection and preservation of oak forests in Bulgaria.

The project was presented today during a press conference at 12 am in MAF. It is implemented by State Hunting Farm of Balchik, State Farming Nesebar, Station on oak forests – Burgas and Executive Forest Agency and it is financed by European Program “Life Plus” and is worth 681,831 euros. The project started in January 2011 and will last three years. National co-financing amounts to 25%.

The aim is to restoration and long-term conservation of native oak trees. State Hunting Farm of Balchik began earlier this year to restore native species of oak trees along the Black Sea coast. Activities are implemented in two target field that fall within protected areas Natura 2000 network. These are areas "Batova River Valley" and "Emine-Irakli." With activities under the project oak habitat area of 1150 ha will be restored. The idea is to develop an action plan for restoration and management of these areas, reducing the adverse impact of the movement of people and animals, grazing on the part of those territories, as well as improve fire safety in these areas
