The president of the French union for sheep breeding UPRA Races Ovines des Massifs, Jean-Luc Chauvel, presented to minister of agriculture and food Dr. Miroslav Naydenov and breeders a joint sheep breeding project.

The project, which will be backed by EU-financing, calls for direct cooperation between France and Bulgaria in the field of sheep breeding. The aim is to make Bulgaria one of the key importers in France of lamb that meets the local market requirements and is tailored to the local tastes. The project also involves providing Bulgarian farmers of breeding males with approved French breeds. The French side will purchase the produced meat as long as it complies with the requirements.

France, which sources more than 60% of its lamb from abroad, mainly Oceania, is looking to target closer partners, predominantly the new EU countries.
