" Bulgarian agriculture has modernized in the recent years and  at the moment meets all European requirements for product quality, as well as the rules of production", said Minister of Agriculture and Food Desislava Taneva during a meeting with Mr. Matti Anttonen, Deputy Minister for External Economic Relations in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Finland, responsible for External Relations who is on an official visit to Bulgaria, accompanied by a business delegation. The delegation discussed opportunities for cooperation in agriculture. Finnish side offered equipment for different types of animal production.

 

" More than 800 000 livestock units  are grown in Bulgaria at the moment. They are divided into traditional spheres - cattle, sheep, poultry, pig, goat and buffalo breeding, "informed Minister Taneva. She added that in our country there is a functioning  legislation under which farmers can use mobile dairies and slaughterhouses. Minister of Agriculture recommended the Finnish companies to participate imposed in our traditional exhibitions in the field of agriculture, which is visited by many farmers.

 

In his turn, Mr. Matti Anttonen said that Finnish companies are interested to enter the Bulgarian market in order to expand bilateral trade.

 

Over the past three years the agricultural trade between Bulgaria and Finland is within rande of EU 9-13 mln., expressed mainly in the export of Bulgarian agricultural products. The leading agricultural export product to Finland is sunflower. Among other  export products are processed fruit and preparations used for animal feed.
