The Committee for the Common Organisation of Agricultural Markets in Brussels has decided to help support the pig meat market and pig farmers, which suffered from high feed prices and dyoxine contamination in Germany. Support for the sector will be made by subsidized private storage of pigmeat prices in order to stabilize the market. The European Commission Decision will be published in the EU Official Journal on Saturday and will be applied from 1.2.2011.
Commission may decide to grant aid for private storage for the price drop below 103% of the reference (1509.39 euros / tonne). Under the proposed scheme, EU funds will be supplied to help pig producers cover the cost of storing their meat for several months until pork prices recover Bulgaria supported the Commission proposal as it is expected to positively affect the sector in the country.
