Preference of 33% for timber production remains for local companies,  became clear during the open meeting with representatives of wood processing companies that do not support the protest of their colleagues. I wanted  to debatethe issue  with the both parties, but unfortunately it did not happen because some of the protesters refused  to attend the meeting, said Minister of Agriculture and Food Dr. Miroslav Naydenov. Removing these preferences was proposed by representatives of associations of small and medium-sized wood processing companies during the meeting of Minister Naydenov with the sector last week.

Today, representatives of some companies announced they disagreed with the proposal to their colleagues this guaranteed rate of timber production to be removed, as they should secure their business and rely on  raw material.
"Auctions are distorted by large companies which speculate on price. As a wood processor I could not conclude long term contracts with companies, because I do not know if I can get enough timber. We support the government and we want preferences for local contractors regulated by the Forestsry Law to remain ", said Vladimir Kotsev, owner of timber company from Velingrad

After hearing the position of representatives of companies, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture and Forestry in parliament Emil Dimitrov said that these amendments will be submitted for consideration. Selling wood by Sofia Stock Exchange remains, because this way we stop the thefts, because the sale on the exchanges is the most transparent way to trade," said Dimitrov.
