The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency will step up checks at public catering establishments and food retailers across the country as religious and bank holidays approach.

Intense inspections will be carried out until January 7, 2013 focusing on outlets’ registration and compliance of the premises and the equipment with legislative requirements. Food safety procedures as well as raw materials origin and quality will also come under close scrutiny.

Restaurants located in all-inclusive hotels and holiday resorts will also be inspected.

The experts will pay special attention to the traditional foods for the upcoming holidays and check for products origin, best-before dates and storing conditions.

Inspectors will be available at all regional food agency units during the Christmas and New Year non-working days. Citizens can file signals at the Agency’s hotline 0700 122 99 operating 08:00 to 21:00 hours every day nationwide.
