Children should be fed healthy by their parents, in nurseries, kindergartens and schools, urged the Minister of Agriculture and Food Dr. Miroslav Naydenov during children's celebration in the Holy Trinity park, Ilinden region, Sofia. "It is important to make children eat healthy and safe foods. Obesity among children and adolescents should be decreased, as already there are cases of diabetes in adolescents, "he said. In his opinion quality food products should be brought back on the table for children at home, in kindergarten and schools.
“Update and refinement of recipe books in kindergarten and schools is being prepared to be made for the new school year. I will insist new recipes to be strictly followed”, Minister said.
He announced from today today the EU banned the manufacture in the Union of baby bottles containing BPA.(Bisphenol A|. Minister Naydenov explained that the industry has been withdrawing voluntarily from the market baby bottles containing BPA.. The control function will be done by the Ministry of Health. The minister recommended that mothers should stop using these bottles..
Bisphenol A is an organic molecule that is used in the manufacture of polycarbonate plastics, which –in turn– are used to manufacture plastic materials, such as baby bottles.Traces of BPA can be released from plastic containers into the food they carry –infant formula in the case of baby bottles– if these containers are heated at high temperatures. During the first six months of the infants' lives, exposure to the substance is the highest, especially if infant formula is the only source of nutrition. Also, during this period the infants' system builds up and does not have the capacity to eliminate BPA.
