It is expected that the European Commission will present in November its proposal about determining the fishing opportunities for 2014 in the Black Sea. It should be coordinated with the EU Council during its December meeting. This statement was made by agriculture and food deputy-minister Valentina Marinova after the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting held in Luxemburg.

“It is extremely important to consider the specifics of the different fisheries and regions in each single case, in order to ensure maximum stability for fishery in all aspects – environmental, social and economic”, commented deputy-minister Valentina Marinova. In her opinion, it is also important to include in the proposals for determining the fishing opportunities the position of scientists and their recommendations for the state of the fish stocks.

During the meeting, the Council reached political agreement with respect to the fishing opportunities, applicable in the Baltic Sea for 2014.
