In relation to media reports about new texts in the legislation amending and supplementing the Fodders Act regarding labeling and violation of EU law, the published information does not correspond with the adopted texts.

No texts have been amended or supplemented in article 23 of the current Fodders Act on labeling of the fodders sold on the market that contain, consist of or are produced from GMO.

Instead, loose fodders that cannot be labeled will be required to be sold with documents certifying that they contain or are made of GMO.

To ensure tighter control, the fodders will have to be offered with laboratory analyses results of the GMO content and the unique GMO codes.

The sanctions for noncompliance with the new rules range from BGN 10,000 to BGN 20,000, and from BGN 15,000 to BGN 30,000 for repeated infringement for physical entities, and from BGN 15,000 to BGN 30,000, and from BGN 30,000 to BGN 45,000 for repeated infringement for legal entities and sole proprietors.
