297 candidates have been approved during the first acceptance stage under the "School Fruit" scheme. Nearly 100,000 children from 714 schools will receive fruits and vegetables from today by the end of the first term. The scheme follows the EU policy to improve public health and prevent socially significant diseases.

Beneficiaries from the two acceptance stages are 442 at total.  The number of schools participated in the European "School Fruit “program is 955 for the school 2011-2012. 138 are the applications submitted for the second acceptance that have to be considered. It is expected that 241 more schools with more than 23,000 children to participate in the program during the second term.

"School Fruit" is used throughout the country within the academic year and covers children from kindergarten to students in grade IV. The financial framework of the scheme amounts to over BGN 3.6 million. Funding is under the European Agricultural Guarantee Fund and the state budget. State Fund "Agriculture" will pay financial assistance for up to 40 deliveries made.
