Minister of Agriculture and Food Dr. Miroslav Naydenov announced in Varna that from 2014 the EU introduces mandatory labeling of food products in to describe the contents of salt, sugar and fat. This requirement will be valid for food producers by decision of the EU Council.
Bulgaria even insist on an earlier date for the introduction of mandatory labeling, he said. For fresh meat, will be mandatory to have a label with the country of origin.
Marking of salt, sugar and fat contents is extremely important for consumers and a healthy diet, the Minister explained. They should know what they consume. Bulgaria in this respect is advanced as it is performed in our country compared to other member states because the manufacturers declare the contents of salt, sugar and fat.
