The global launch of the International Year of Forests, 2011 will be held in conjunction with the High-LevelSegment of the ninth session of the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF9). The ceremony will be presidedover by H.E. Mr. Joseph Deiss, President of the 65th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
"International Year of Forests 2011 'is an initiative of the United Nations aimed at raising awareness concerning sustainable management, conservation and development of all types of forests for the benefit of our and future generations.
The International Year of Forests 2011 (Forests 2011) logo is designed to convey the theme of “Forests for People” celebrating the central role of people in the sustainable management, conservation and sustainable development of our world’s forests. A website for this purpose has been created www.un.org/esa/forests/2011.html.
Encourages voluntary partnerships among Member States, international organizations and major groups to facilitate and promote activities related to the Year at the local and national levels, including by creating national committees or designating focal points in their respective countries.
