The Ministry of Agriculture and Food (MAF) will continue working to ensure Bulgarian fruit and vegetable producers reach a world-class level. This was stated by the Minister of Agriculture and Food, Plamen Abrovski, during the opening of the regional exhibition "From the Garden to You – Elenovo 2026" in the village of Elenovo, Nova Zagora municipality. He emphasized that to achieve sustainable development, farmers must have the opportunity to unite in cooperatives and receive the necessary financing for acquiring and expanding their production facilities. As an example, the Agriculture Minister pointed to the Sliven region, where a facility has already been built and can be further developed. According to him, the association of producers provides an opportunity to offer quantities and quality on the market that create prospects for the sector's development. Minister Abrovski said this is part of the future of Bulgarian agriculture and requires long-term work, not just measures to overcome individual crises. "The first step is the Law on Cooperatives, to provide a basis for this to happen," explained Plamen Abrovsky. He indicated that the draft law is about to be submitted to the National Assembly, with the expectation that it will be adopted by the end of the year.
For his part, the chairman of the National Branch Chamber "Fruits and Vegetables," Tsvetan Tsekov, stated that Bulgarian producers have a future and expressed confidence that the state will continue to support them.
Speaking to the media, Minister Abrovsky said the government's main measures aim to revive villages, as vibrant rural areas are linked to economic development and food security. He pointed out that support under the current crisis is necessary, but it is more important to build a long-term, sustainable policy that does not depend on who holds the post of minister. On the price of bread, Minister Abrovsky said he does not expect a significant increase, emphasizing that the state is taking the necessary measures within its powers. "This year the country has a very good grain harvest, which will guarantee high-quality wheat, flour, and bread," he firmly stated. Plamen Abrovsky also said that in the coming days, talks will begin with the Minister of Transport to further alleviate transport costs by using the country's railway infrastructure. According to him, this is an important component of grain costs, so reducing transport costs will support producers.
Among the official guests were Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Yanislav Yanchev, Mayor of Elenovo village Diyan Bonev, District Governor of Sliven Mihail Kasherov, as well as Members of Parliament from the region.
Nearly 60 agricultural producers are participating in the exhibition "From the Garden to You – Elenovo 2026", organized by the National Branch Chamber "Fruits and Vegetables". Visitors can buy fruits, vegetables, and other local products directly from farmers, meet representatives of family farms, and learn more about the journey of food from the field to the table. The event also includes tastings and culinary demonstrations.
