Minister of Agriculture and Food Dr. Miroslav Naydenov awarded the prize "Demetra" to Mr. Desislav Genov who won the prize “Thracian Farmer No.1” and took part in the Competition for Innovations in International Agricultural Exhibition AGRA in Plovdiv.
Desislav Genov owns 3 modern equipped farms in the villages of Stryama, Tseretelovo and Draganovo where he breeds 70 thousand ducks. He exports liver to France and Belgium and prepared two projects approved for EU funding.
Minister Naydenov presented the award for innovative product of the Institute for Plant Genetic Resources in Bulgaria for the first winter oats, variety IRGR Marina.
Besides these, awards were also given in 6 more categories including: "Machinery, equipment and technologies for plant breeding to the Muller Electronic GmbH KG company; "Machinery, equipment and technologies for livestock breeding," to the Swedish company De Laval; "Fertilizers and preparations for agriculture " to Agropolychim AD; " Research and development activities" to the Research Institute of field crops in Chirpan and “Livstock breeding" category to the company BONMIKS Ltd.
In his speech the Minister of Agriculture and Food said that innovations are a subject that suggests to look ahead, develop new and modern inceptions in the agricultural sector and the state is ready to give support.
Among the official guests at the ceremony were the Mayor of Plovdiv, Mr. Slavcho Atanasov and Executive Director of the Plovdiv Fair Mr.Bogomil Bonev, Agricultural Affairs Attaché at the Embassy of the Netherlands Mr.Herman van Wisse and theHonorary Consuls of the Republic of Turkey, Armenia and Italy.
