Minister of Agriculture and Food Miroslav Naydenov have opened a potato laboratory to the Bulgarian Agency for Food Safety in Samokov.
At the moment this would be the only specialized potato laboratory in the country. The investment amounts to BGN 350 000, as the resources were provided by the national budget. The laboratory will be engaged in research on potatoes’ diseases and this way will assist producers to produce quality products, said the Minister. It will also control the export of potatoes. The staff has been trained in France and Holland.
MP of GERB Tsvetan Sichanov announced that the next step will be the opening of potato exchange and potato depository in the region. Such exchanges and depositories have already been established in Italy and in other countries of European Union.
